The Situation

Physician Leadership Academy of South Florida is one of the most significant, well-established programs of the Palm Beach County Medical Society & Services. This comprehensive program sponsored by PBCMS and several related organizations provides practicing physicians in South Florida with robust leadership development training to improve operations and quality in their practices. With the problem of burnout growing, program leaders recognized the need to devote more time to specific physician leadership strategies and practices the affect staff engagement, retention, and overall operating results.

The Solution

At the suggestion of another faculty member within the Leadership Academy, PBCMS leaders reached out to Burl Stamp, founder/president of Stamp & Chase, to develop and facilitate a six-hour program focused on leadership practices associated with crisis management, resolving conflict and resiliency.

The Results

“Burl’s experience as a health care executive enables him to define critical skills needed by physicians to lead in challenging times,” emphasized Karen Harwood, MSW CCM SHRM-CP. “As the program director of the Physician Leadership Academy of South Florida, I was fortunate to witness his ability to engage participants by providing strategies and tools to manage crisis, while evoking meaningful discussion. Physicians shared that the benefits of this training included skills to strategize planning, productivity, communication methods and engaging staff to reduce burn out.”
